The FR Canadian Linguist performs quality control and on-demand translation tasks for medical devices and life sciences content; takes on linguistic lead functions for assigned projects; coordinates the activities of a group of translators for assigned accounts or projects; trains and develops freelancers; ensures that work is completed to a satisfactorily high standard within specified deadlines and quality levels; and ensures that the Language Process is followed by the project/account team.
Responsibilities:
The following is a non-exhaustive list of responsibilities and areas of ownership for this role:
- Performing copy-editing tasks on assigned projects or accounts (EN > FRCA).
- Performing on-demand translation tasks (EN > FRCA).
- Providing lead support on assigned projects or accounts.
- Managing and maintaining language materials (including glossaries, style guides, and work instructions) to meet quality standards and ensure they are up to date as required by the account or project.
- Managing project-related queries.
- Ensuring good interaction among team members and resolving questions on terminology and language matters.
- Testing and qualifying new freelancers and vendors as required.
- Developing and training internal linguists and new and existing freelancers according to the needs of the accounts and Developing and training internal linguists and new and existing freelancers according to the needs of the accounts and our client.
- Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required.
- Participating in the development of new and improved working processes.
- Meeting or exceeding the productivity KPI.
- Achieving the goals set by the Squad Lead.
Requisitos
Requirements:
Education:
- University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant experience in the translation and localization industry.
- Native fluency in French Canadian.
- Previous experience in translating medical devices and life sciences content.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Thorough understanding of the localization process.
- Proficiency in standard software, such as Windows and Office applications.
- Proficiency in standard CAT tools (e.g., XTM, SDL Studio), and issue tracking and query management tools (e.g. JIRA)
Relevant skills:
- Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of terminology used in two or more subject areas.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to provide clear, concise and constructive feedback.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and linguists.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
- Willingness and experience in training and teaching others while passing on knowledge.
- Ability and experience in positively communicating with customers at various levels.
- Ability to work effectively within a virtual team.
